Humour, Self-understanding and changing our lives for the better

Humour, is balm for aching hearts and a settling for chaotic minds!

Laughing is healing - like mystical experience it 'takes us out of ourselves'!

Humour, of course, ranges from helpless convulsions on the floor to gentle wit.

My first example is by Ian McKenzie

10 Rules To Ensure You Don't Reach Your Goals

1. Goals1Be vague about what you want to accomplish. Don’t be specific about what you want to achieve.

2. Keep your goals to yourself. Don’t tell anyone about your dreams.

3. Spend time with people who are not reaching their goals. Stay away from anyone who has clear goals and a plan to reach them.

4. Avoid writing down your goals. Writing down your goals could be a step toward achieving them.

5. Listen to your negative self-talk. If you do find yourself moving toward a goal, give in to your fears and doubts.

6. Give up the moment you run into an obstacle. An obstacle is a sure sign that you should give up on your goals.

7. Take the advice of people who thinks your goals are impossible or a poor decision. Cynicism is more realistic than imagination.

8. Never take a risk. Stay in your comfort zone, it’s safer.

9. Do not start anything until you are sure of the outcome. Wait until conditions are “perfect” to move forward.

10. See unwanted results for what they really are: failure. Most results will not be what you wanted, so you may as well give up now.

These 10 simple rules will help you settle for anything.

My second example is just gentle wit - a set of instructions that we might have got as a 'user's manual' upon arriving in this world - but didn't! Working out these truths, laws and principles can be a life-time's work.

Of course many of the truths that the 12 Rules point to are the same practical steps that you can learn about in the '18-Step program'.

12 Rules for Being Human

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours the entire period.

2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called Life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.

3. There are no mistakes, only lessons.Growth is a process of trial and error: experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."

4. A lesson is repeated until learned.A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can then go on to the next lesson.

5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6. "There" is no better than "here."When your "there" has become a "here," you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."

7. Others are merely mirrors of you.You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself.

8. What you make of your life is up to you.You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

9. Life is exactly what you think it is.You create a life that matches your beliefs and expectations.

10. Your answers lie inside you.The answers to life's questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

11. You will forget all this.

12. You can remember it whenever you want.
